What is Artificial Neural Network?
An ANN (Artificial Neural Network) is an information processing paradigm that is inspired by the biological nervous system, such as brain, which processes the information. Key element of this paradigm is the Nobel structure of the information processing system. Composed of large number of highly interconnected processing elements which works in unison in order to solve specific problems. Like we need to learn things by example, even ANN’S require to learn specific things through example. It is configured for specific applications, such as pattern recognition or data classification through learning process. Learning in biological systems involves a lot of adjustment for synaptic connections that exists between the neurons, which applies for ANN’S as well.
Warren S. McCulloch
Talking about the historical part, scientists have long been inspired by the human brain. In 1943, Warren S. McCulloch, a neuroscientist, and Walter Pitts, a logician, developed the first conceptual model of an artificial neural network. In their paper, “A logical calculus of the ideas imminent in nervous activity,” they describe the concept of a neuron, a single cell living in a network of cells that receives inputs, processes those inputs, and generates an output.
Applications of ANN’S & Impact over the Humans in coming future.
Coming to the uses of the ANN’S, its remarkable ability to derive meaning from the complicated or imprecise data, can be used to extract some specific patterns and detects trends that are too complex to be identified by a normal human being. Given a proper training, the ANN’S are capable enough to solve these patterns or codes just in a wink of an eye. As these networks learn through example, it generally develops its own logical reasoning which solves any particular patterns in new and better way.
Not only it reduces the time of computing, also it provides new solutions to the user. Moving on to its applications, most of the companies today are completely depending upon these ANN’S, as it is erasing the old technology in order to replace with the new ones. It has been used in a wide range of fields including medical diagnosis, stock trading, robot control, law, remote sensing, scientific discovery and toys. As we are moving towards an advancing future, no longer there will be a need of smartphones or laptops as we, the “The Human Beings” will be capable enough to communicate, process information without any means of the ‘Handheld Technology’. Our body just requires a small artificial processor which would enhance our natural computing more than we would have ever imagined.
